Christian Abbiati is an Italian international goalkeeper who is currently on loan to Spanish side Atletico Madrid from Italian giants AC Milan. Although a footballing journeyman, Abbiati is rated as one of the top goalkeepers in the world.

Christian Abbiati began his career at the age of 13 for Trezzano and Assago, he moved to Corsico and in 1996 secured a move to Monza. He signed for AC Milan in the Italian Serie A in 1999 and was the first choice custodian for the Milanese giants until 2002.

Thereafter he lost his place to Dida in the Milan goal and was on move on loans to a plethora of clubs. He has been on loan to Juventus and Torino for two successive seasons and now he is slated to be on loan to Atletico until the end of the 2007-2008 season although he has expressed a desire to stay on at the Vicente Calderon beyond the summer.

Christian Abbiati played for Italy in Euro 2000 as a third choice goalkeeper.
