George Duncan was a Scottish professional golfer born on September 16, 1883 in Methlick, Aberdeenshire. Before getting into the professional golf scene, he first tried out for the Aberdeen professional football team. Unfortunately, he got rejected and so became a professional golf player.
Duncan first competed in 1912 in the Belgian Open. He was the 3rd golfer to win in the said tournament after it opened in 1910. In the following year, in 1913, he competed in the French Open tournament held in Chantilly and at the News of the World Match Play defeating James Braid in the Walton Health Golf Club. In 1920, he won the Open Championships tournament in the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club defeating fellow Scottish Sandy Herd. He continued to compete in the said tournament until 1924. He then competed again in the French Open in 1927. In that same year, he was the first golfer to win the Irish Open when it was first played in Portmarnock.
