Marcos Baghdatis – A Tennis Star on the Rise

At a young age of twenty-two, Marcos Baghdatis is already capturing so much attention with his unrivaled performance. Currently ranked number 15 in the world, this young man has definitely made it far in the world of Tennis. His enthusiasm in Tennis started at the age of 5 which led to his training in Paris’ Mouratoglou Tennis Academy at age 13 and successfully turned pro in 2003. The highest rank ever attained by this young Tennis star was on August 21, 2006 where he landed no.8 in the Singles circuit. He was ranked 93 in the world for the Doubles circuit.

Tracking His Career

After being hailed as the ITF World Junior Tennis Champion in the year 2003, he later joined the ATP and started his professional career. At the beginning of 2004, Marcos Baghdatis performed satisfactorily but upped his game later in the year. He participated in the US Open against higher ranked tennis players such as Olivier Mutis and Roger Federer and was able to land on the second place.

2005 was not a good year for Marcos Baghdatis as he began the year losing in the Chennai Open and eventually taking a break from the professional tour due to an elbow injury. In 2006, he was one of the finalists in the Australian Open and one of the semi-finalists in Wimbledon. He placed second again in the US Open in the same year. In 2007, he won fourth place in the French Open. He is currently a holder of 2 Singles Career Titles.

Marcos Baghdatis plays with a relaxed and smooth style and has a characteristic forehand that is said to be really powerful. Though involved in the 2008 Australian Open Controversy, Marcos Baghdatis is still making headway in his professional Tennis career.
