Not only is Lorena Ochoa the first Mexican female golfer to be ranked number one in the whole world, she is the only Mexican to ever reach the number one spot in Golf for the whole world. Yes, Ochoa is quite the impressive individual. She’s successful and most of all, she is still young. Born on the 15th of November 1981, Ochoa still is officially 26 years old. Despite the age, she has already a great number of wins and awards under her name. Looking back at her early childhood roots, one wouldn’t be surprised why Lorena Ochoa is considered one of the greatest female golfers of all time.

Ochoa had an early start in Golf, winning her first state event at the age of six and her first national event at the age of seven. Throughout her junior year, much was the same. Ochoa was still winning golfing tournaments in her division here and there. Her greatest accomplishment as a junior was in winning the Junior World Golf Championship, not only once but five times consecutively. Where collegiate golf was concerned, Ochoa was still a success. She was so successful in fact that she was the first golfer and youngest person to ever receive Mexico’s highest recognition – Mexico’s National Sports Award, presented by the Mexican President, Vicente Fox.

Ochoa turned pro in the year 2002. In her debut year alone, Ochoa managed to win three of the ten events on the 2002 Futures Pro. This made her top the money list and gave her the opportunity to earn a membership on the LPGA Tour for 2003. In the succeeding years, Ochoa proved to be touch competition for the reigning number one female golfer, Annika Sorenstam. In 2007, Ochoa overtook Sorenstam for the world number one title. Ochoa also managed to become the first woman golfer to win three and more consecutive events since Sorenstam and the first woman golfer to earn more than $4,000,000 for one single season since Sorenstam. Now in 2008, Ochoa has a record of 26 professional wins with 2 major championship wins.
