The well known Russian player, Nikolay Vladimirovich Davydenko is fourth among the tennis players in the world, a winner of single titles of at least twelve Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments and No. 1 in Russia. Davydenko reached the semi-finals in the Grand Slam Tournament in the U.S. Open and French Open.

Born in Severodonetsk, Ukraine on June 2, 1981, Nikolay now resides in Volgograd, Russia with his wife Irina. He started holding a racquet at seven together with his brother Eduard, who also grew up to be a professional player. They were both trained and were exposed to tournaments at Salmtal, Germany.

Davydenko officially became a professional tennis player in 1999. A year after he earned his first title match. He reached three finals at the Future Tour making his debut at ATP in Amsterdam. A few months later, he won a match in Monchengladbach as the Challenger.

Only in the year 2001 did Nikolay made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open. He reached the second round against Patrick Rafter, but lost the game. In February of the same year, he rested for six weeks because of an injury in the lower back he suffered in Dallas. After he was fit to play again, he earned two Challenger titles at Istanbul and Ulm. He ended his year by completing the quarter-final season in Basel.

In the succeeding years, Nikolay had his fare share of victories and losses in the every season. In 2008, he won the fourth place at the Australian Open. He lost his games to Mikhail Youzhny and Feliciano Lopez but defeated Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal to win his ATP Master’s Series title the second time.
