Manuel Almunia is a Spanish football player who currently features for the Premiership powerhouse Arsenal. He plays as a goalkeeper and is currently the first choice for the club.
Manuel Almunia commenced his professional debut with the Spanish football club Recreativo de Huelva and then joined Celta de Vigo where he went almost a year without making a single appearance.
In the summer of 2004 he was signed by Arsenal for an undisclosed fee and made his debut in a 2-1 League Cup win over Manchester City in October 2004 and played in all the Gunners’ League Cup matches in that 2004-2005 season.
Manuel Almunia also played in the 2006 UEFA Champions League final against Barcelona as a substitute after Jens Lehmann was sent off during the match.
Almunia was the first choice for Arsenal in the 2006-2007 FA Cup and League Cup matches but through the 2007-2008 season he was given the regular first team berth by Arsenal and has been confirmed to be the first choice for the club for the 2008-2009 season.
