Brandon Jacobs is a running back for the New York Giants. In college, he played for Auburn, but because he was relegated to the third string, he played his senior year at Southern Illinois University. In 2005, he was the Giants' fourth-round pick and the 110th player chosen overall.
In his first season with New York, Jacobs played sparingly, carrying the ball 38 times for 99 yards in 16 games. Used primarily in short yardage and goal line situations, he scored seven touchdowns and made 19 first downs. In 2007, with the retirement of primary running back Tiki Barber, Jacobs became the club's first-string back. In 11 games he ran for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He also made 23 receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Jacobs is a fine athlete who utilizes his power and fine vision to run between tacklers. He also lowers his pads and uses his strong legs to effectively run through defenders. In 2007, he proved to be an important component of the Giants' offense. He was NFC Offensive Player of the Month (October 2007) and a member of the Super Bowl XLII Championship club.
In 42 regular season games, he's run for 1,531 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Jacobs has 20 rushing touchdowns and 101 first downs. Over the course of three seasons, he's fumbled the ball seven times, losing five.
