Jose Molina

José Benjamin Matta Molina was born on June 3, 1975, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. He is a catcher for the New York Yankees.

Jose is 6' 2", and weighs 245 pounds.

High School
Jose graduated from Masetro Ladi High School in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico in 1993.

College
Jose attended Ladislao Martinez University in Puerto Rico.

Minor Leagues
The Chicago Cubs drafted Jose in the 14th round of the 1993 amateur draft. He made his way through their farm system.

Major Leagues
Jose was called up to the majors in 1999, and played 10 games for them.

Jose joined the then-Anaheim Angels in 2001 as a free agent. He became the backup catcher during the 2002 season to his older brother, Bengie.

After his brother left the team, José was the Angel's starting catcher in 2006. A couple of rookies were brought up to compete for the job, and Mike Napoli took over as the starting catcher because of his batting prowess.

On July 21, 2007, Jose was traded to the New York Yankees for minor league pitcher Jeff Kennard.

On December 3, 2007 the Yankees signed Jose to a two-year deal.

He served as the team's starting catcher in 2008, following a shoulder injury to Jorge Posada, but became a backup catcher again, when the Yankees acquired Iván Rodríguez on July 30, 2008.
