Mike Lowell, born in Puerto Rica, raised in Miami, is the third baseman for the Boston Red Sox.

Lowell was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in 1995 and debuted in 1998. He was dealt to the Florida Marlins in 1999, when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had surgery before spring training and was back in the lineup by the end of May. He developed into one of the league's top third baseman, and helped the Marlins win the World Series in 2004. He hit 27 home runs and 85 RBIs that season, as well as earning a Gold Glove. After the 2005 season, Florida traded Lowell to Boston along with star pitcher Josh Beckett.

Lowell had a career year in 2007, hitting 21 homers and batting .324, while leading the team with 120 RBIs. He was named World Series MVP as well.
