The Detroit Lions drafted Batch, a quarterback, in the second round of the 1998 draft. He was the 30th overall pick. Batch played for Detroit from 1998 to 2001, often as a starter. In 2001 he was injured late in the season and released by the Lions during the off-season.

In four seasons with Detroit, Batch played in 48 games, passing for over 9,000 yards, 49 touchdowns and over 700 receptions. During that time, he was sacked 147 times and fumbled 18 times, losing 10.

In 2002, the Pittsburgh Steelers offered him a contract as a backup quarterback. He saw no action that season and was resigned in 2003. He was designated as the Steelers’ second-string quarterback in 2005. Batch saw action as a backup and starter for Pittsburgh in 2003 and from 2005 to 2007.

As a Steeler, Batch has proven to be a solid backup. In 2006, he played in eight games earning a quarterback rating of 121.0 and completing 58.5% of his throws. He threw for five touchdowns and gave up no interceptions.

Batch is a tough competitor and a solid performer. He was a member of the Super Bowl XL Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the Seattle Seahawks 21- 10. As a community leader, he received the first Jerome Bettis Award for Humanity and Community Service for his efforts to help children through youth sports in his hometown of Homestead, PA.
