Michael Jordan

Michael Jeffrey Jordan aka “MJ, His Airness, and Air Jordan” is a retired professional basketball player from the United States. Born on February 17, 1963, Jordan is perhaps one of the most recognized athletes in recent history. He is also known as the “greatest basketball player of all time” and is one of the athletes who have been effectively marketed all over the world, causing the NBA to become popular worldwide.

During his early years, Jordan played baseball and football aside from his trademark basketball. In fact, when he tried out for the varsity team during his sophomore year in high school, he was subsequently cut from the team for being too short despite standing at 5’11”. However, over the summer, he grew 4 more inches and after training extra hard, he earned his spot back and began his ascension into greatness.

Jordan’s professional career started in 1984 playing for the Chicago Bulls. He was drafted in 1984 in the first round of the draft, at pick number 3. Back then he was studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Unlike most NBA players, Jordan was never traded or bought to other teams. He stayed with the Bulls from 1984-1993, and after a brief hiatus, 1995-1998. He then went into semi-retirement, only to make another comeback but this time he played for the Washington Wizards but only for a brief time.

Throughout Jordan’s career, he was able to have six NBA Championship rings plus five NBA MVP awards. He has also been named NBA All-Star for fourteen times and a six-time NBA Finals MVP. In addition to his numerous titles, Jordan was also the 1985 NBA Rookie of the Year.
