Melanie Oudin is the former World Junior No. 2 in American tennis. She was born on September 23, 1991 in Marietta, Georgia, United States and holds a French heritage.

Melanie started playing tennis at age 7. She concentrated playing the sport when she was in her teens and is now being coached by Noel Wadawu. She plays best with her right hand and double handed back hand and considers the fast ball on hard surfaces her best games. As of Jan 2009, Melanie is ranked number 9 and she was number 2 last year based on the Career High Combined. She has 92 wins over 29 losses under her career singles record and 42 wins over 33 losses on her career doubles.

As an amateur, Melanie consistently won 11 matches during the ITF Junior Circuit. These included 4 of the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis titles. She lost a game against Portuguese player Michelle Larcher de Brito at the Orange Bowl, which she was hopeful to win. That could have been her 5th consecutive championship title.

In 2008, before Melanie turned professional, she won the USTA International Spring Championships and the Eastern Bowl. She as well reached the quarter-finals at the French Open Junior Championship but lost to Elena Bogdan of Romania in the semi-finals. She was ranked number 1 seed at the Wimbledon that same year but she was defeated by Laura Robson.

It was in February that Melanie became a professional. Then she received a wild card to join the WTA tournament in Miami. She lost her first game at the first round to Tathiana Garbin. She also received a wild to her very first Grand Slam U.S. Open tournament where she was defeated by Jessica Moore of Australia. She also took part in the Bell Challenge held at Quebec City where she defeated Sybille Bammer and Olga Puchkova.
