Luis Jimenez was never a big name in his native Chile and gained reputation only when he started his Italian footballing career, which was at Ternana Calcio where he played from 2002 to 2005. However Ternana bought back half of the rights to the player and the young Chilean played in the Italian Serie C1 in 2006-2007. In January 2007 after a protracted transfer saga, Serie A side Lazio signed Jimenez for 11 million euros with his first season at the Stadio Olimpico on loan.
At the start of the season, Luis Jimenez was signed on loan by Inter Milan for the 2007-2008 season.
Luis Jimenez made his debut for Chile in April 2004 against Peru. He is now the skipper of Chile and was chosen as the 2005-2006 Chilean player of the year.
