Kennedy was born and raised by ethnic Syrian parents in Södertälje, Sweden. He started to play football in Swedish club Assyriska FF at the age of six. Kennedy made his debut in the A-team at the age of 15. After a successful season in 1998 with scoring eight goals, he was invited to Manchester United for a test game but was not signed. In 1999 Kennedy signed on for the Stockholm club Hammarby IF. He made his debut on the 11th of April against Trelleborgs FF. He became quickly a favorite among the Hammarby fans. The biggest success was in 2001 when Kennedy won the national Swedish series with Hammarby. After two years in Greece playing for Iraklis Kennedy signed on for FC Twente in Holland. He scored 23 goals in two seasons playing for FC Twente. On the 15th of May 2007 Kennedy Bakircioglü signed on to AFC Ajax for 4 years. Edit text
