Fernando Jose Torres Sanz, commonly known simply as Fernando Torres, is a Spanish international football player who currently features for the English Premier League side Liverpool. He is affectionately known as El Nino(the kid) and won Euro 2008 with Spain.
Fernando Torres developed through the youth academy of Spain’s third biggest club Atletico Madrid and earned a huge reputation when he was barely 16 and was actually rushed to the first team by the Atleti fans who wanted to see their “Messiah”.
Torres made his first team debut for Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Segunda Division in May 2001 against Leganes at the Vicente Calderon and played for his live club the next promotion winning season. Torres then burst into the scene and started taking the Spanish first division by storm but he was criticized for not scoring goals. In six seasons for Atletico, Torres scored 82 goals in 214 league matches.
Liverpool signed Torres from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007 for 20 million pounds and proved to be arguably the best signing for manager Rafael Benitez in his time at Anfield. Torres score 24 goals in 33 Premier League matches in his debut season to become the most prolific foreign goalscorer ever in a debut season in England and ended the 2007-2008 season as joint second top scorer in the Premiership.
