David Albelda

David Albelda is one of the best football players currently playing. He plays for the Spanish national team and is also the captain of the Spanish giant Valencia CF. Albelda is a defensive midfield player renowned for anchoring the midfield.

Albelda is a graduate of the Valencia youth academy and has been at the Mestalla for his entire footballing career. He played in Valencia B in the 1995-1996 season and was then loaned onto Spanish side Villarreal for the next year. He was recalled to the Mestalla for the 1997-1998 season but was loaned to Villarreal again next season.

Since then of course Albelda has chiseled out a place for himself in the Valencia line-up and in the Valencia history books. He started his career as a center-back but then switched to defensive midfield role and these days he has developed into a marked leader and great tackler. But in December 2007 David Albelda was axed from the first squad by then coach Ronald Koeman along with his team mates Santiago Canizares and Miguel Angel Angulo but retuned to the set-up after Koemen was sacked in April.

Albelda has won the UEFA Cup in 2004 with Valencia and also La Liga in 2002 and 2004 besides reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2000 and 2001. Albedla has been very much a key figure in the Spanish national team since 2001 and even at 30, maintains his first team place for Spain.
