Maxim Afinogenov fan club
Maxim Afinogenov is a Russian right winger on the Atlanta Thrashers.
Afinogenov was drafted by Buffalo in 1997, after playing with HC Dynamo Moscow. He played his first full NHL season in ’99-00, scoring 34 points. Afinogenov’s speed and versatility made him immediately effective, but it wasn’t until after the lockout that he broke out as one of the top players in the league. In 2005-06, he exploded with 22 goals and 51 assists for 73 points, his best season thus far. He would follow that effort with a 61 point season in 2006-07. The remainder of his years in Buffalo were hampered by injuries and poor chemistry with linemates, and he managed only 48 points in 104 games between 2007 and 2009. In the 2009 offseason, he was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers, where he was placed on the top line with superstar Ilya Kovalchuk. He got off to a quick start, scoring 6 points in his first 8 games, and looks poised to reclaim some of his former starpower.
Afinogenov has played for Team Russia at 7 international competitions, winning bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics, silver at the ’98 World Juniors and gold at the ’08 World Championships.
