Teofilo Cubillas fan club
Teofilo Cubillas Arizaga is a former Peruvian football player who used to feature prominently during the 1960s,1970s and 1980s. He played as a midfielder and is considered as the greatest ever Peruvian footballer. Cubillas was voted the South American Footballer of the Year in 1972 and was named by Pele in March 2004 as one of the 125 greatest living footballers.
Teofilo Cubillas commenced his professional club football career at Allianza Lima in 1966 and subsequently featured for FC Basel and FC Porto among others. He was a creative midfielder who scored goals and was known for his tricks and technique. He started life with Allianza Lima when he was 16 years of age and was the topscorer in the Peruvian Championship in 1966 and 1970.
Teofilo Cubillas made his international debut for Peru in 1968 and went onto feature in 81 international matches for his nation, scoring 26 goals. Cubillas inspired Peru to the quarter-finals of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico although he was only 20 years of age at the time. He was the third highest scorer in that tournament with 5 goals. He also inspired Peru to the second round of the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina and also played at the 1982 World Cup finals.
Teofilo Cubillas currently holds the record of being the all time top scorer for Peru. He is also the 7th highest all time goalscorer in the World Cup.
