Petr Cech is a Czech Republic international football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Chelsea. He is a goalkeeper and is considered as one of the best three custodians in the world.
Petr Cech began his career at Czech club Biscany in 1999 and after two seasons moved to Czech powerhouse Sparta Prague and after one season was transferred to French side Stade Rennes. After 70 league matches and two seasons, Cech was signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2004 for 7 million pounds on a five-year contract. He quickly secured the first choice goalkeeping spot for himself and led Chelsea from the back to two successive Premier League crowns in 2005 and 2006.
Cech was awarded the Golden Gloves by the Premier League at the end of the 2004-2005 seasons for keeping a record 25 clean sheets. In October 2006, Petr Cech suffered a depressed skull fracture when he clashed with Reading’s Stephen Hunt during a Premier League match. He came back from that injury in January 2007.
Cech has made over 100 league appearances for Chelsea and signed a new contract with the club in 2007. He is considered one of the best goalkeepers to have ever played the game and one of the most vital players in the Chelsea set-up. He received the individual award of Best Goalkeeper in the 2004-2005 and the 2006-2007 seasons of the UEFA Champions League and was named in the FIFPro and UEFA Champions League teams of the season in 2006.
Petr Cech made his international debut for the Czech Republic side in 2002 and has played over 60 matches for his nation. He represented the Czechs at Euro 2004 and was one of the best players in the competition. He played at the 2006 Germany World Cup and Euro 2008.
He holds the Premier League record for not conceding a goal in 1,025 minutes and for most clean sheets in a single Premier League season with 25. In addition, he holds the Czech record for not conceding a goal in 855 minutes.
