Daniel Van Buyten commenced his professional club football career at Belgian side Charleroi SC in 1997 and played for them for two seasons. In 1999 Van Buyten moved to Standard Liege and after two years moved abroad to France to play for French traditional giants Marseille.
After playing for Marseille for four years, Van Buyten was signed by German side SV Hamburg for whom he played impressively for two seasons. In June 2006 German and European giants Bayern Munich signed him and the huge central defender has been a formidable presence at the heart of Bayern's defence ever since.
Daniel Van Buyten made his international debut for Belgium in 2001 and has played almost 50 matches for his nation so far. He was part of the Belgian national squad for the 2002 World Cup finals.
