Denilson commenced his career at Brazilian giants Sao Paulo in 2005 and won the Cope Libertadores and the 2005 FIFA World Cup. He was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2006 for 3.4 million pounds and made his first team debut in October of that year when he started a Carling Cup third round match against West Bromwich Albion. He made his Premiership debut for Arsenal as a substitute in December 2006 in a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United away from home.
Denilson was relatively more active for the Gunners in the 2007-2008 season.
Denilson earned his first national cap for Brazil in November 2006. He was however an unused substitute in that match.
