Alexei Kovalev is a Russian ice hockey player who plays right wing forward in the Montreal Canadiens. He serves as alternate captain for the team alongside Saku Koivu.
Kovalev was originally drafted by the NY Rangers in 1991. He was the first Russian player to be drafted in the first round. When the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994 Kovalev was the third best scorer and along with three fellow Russians he was the first Russian to have won the Stanley Cup.
