Quarterback Tony Romo is the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Romo was signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2003 out of Eastern Illinois University. He has spent his entire career with the Cowboys.
The watershed season for Romo was in 2006, when head coach Bill Parcells, who was unhappy with starting QB Drew Bledsoe's performance against the Giants, started Romo in the second half of the game. Although Romo had a tough outing, it was good enough to impress Parcells. Two days later, Romo became the club's starting signal caller.
Romo was not activated by Dallas until 2005 when he saw no action. In 2006, he completed 220 of 337 passes for a total of 2,903 yards. He hit for 19 touchdowns while tossing 13 interceptions. The following season, 2007, Romo threw 520 passes, connecting on 335 for 4,211 yards. He hit for 36 touchdowns, earning a rating of 97.4. That season he gave up 19 interceptions.
In a few short seasons, Romo has proven to be a fine field general, ably handling and guiding the Dallas offense. At six-foot-two and 225 pounds, he has the physique of a NFL quarterback. His arm strength is adequate. He's smart, calm under pressure and able to read defenses. Romo tends to make good decisions and to learn from bad ones. His foot work is inferior and sometimes he makes weak throws. The QB needs more work on basic drop-back techniques. Romo possesses the potential to lead his Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory.
In 2006 and 2007, he was selected to the Pro Bowl. He is the Cowboys starting quarterback. Look for him to continue to improve.
