Dow Henry Finsterwald, Sr. is a known golfer from America. He was born on September 6, 1929, in Athens, Ohio, United States. He holds the 1958 PGA Championship title, as well as other tournaments. He attended Ohio University when he was younger, and graduated in 1952. And he joined his father, Russ Finsterwald, on the Ohio University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1969.

Finsterwald turned pro in 1951, and was known for his superb and short game. He was also considered as a consistent player on the Tour from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. He managed to finish either on fifth place or even higher in around 50 times through his career. He was also Arnold Palmer’s friend, who was one of the greatly dominant players during his period.

Finsterwald participated in four Ryder Cups Teams, this was in 1957, 1959, 1961, and 1963. In 1977, he played as the non-playing captain of the team. Before that, he won the 1957 Vardon Trophy for being the Tour professional who had the lowest scoring average. He was also awarded the 1958 PGA Golfer of the Year, and is listed as the fifth person who had the most finishes on the money list.

Recently, he was honored by Jack Nicklaus, fellow Ohioan, at the Memorial Tournament of 2007 held in Dublin, Ohio.

Over the course of his colorful career, Finsterwald has garnered a total of 11 PGA Tour wins and one Major Championship win (1958 PGA Championship). He is already married to his wife, Linda, and they have a daughter and three sons. Incidentally, his middle son, Dow Finsterwald Jr. is a head professional at a country club in Texas.
