Dietmar Hamann is a former German international football player who currently features for the English Premier League side Manchester City. He is a defensive midfielder, known for his hard tackles and long range goals and made his name at Liverpool with whom he won the UEFA Cup in 2001 and the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
Dietmar Hamann progressed through the youth academy of German powerhouse Bayern Munich and made his debut for the senior side in 1993. He was instantly drafted into the Bayern first team and played in 105 German Bundesliga matches for them, scoring 6 goals between 1993 and 1998. He won the Bundesliga in 1994 and 1997.
Dietmar Hamann was signed by Newcastle United in the English Premier League in 1998 and played 23 league matches and scored 4 goals in his only season at St. James Park. Liverpool picked him in 1999 for 8 million pounds.
