High School
Demetris went to St. Andrew's High School, where he played basketball under Mike Hart.

College
Demetris attended Syracuse University, where he majored in speech communication. For the Orange, he played in 26 games his freshman year, starting 15. In his sophomore year, Demetris started the first eight games of the season, but then had a back injury. He ended up appearing in 27 games that season.

As a junior, Demetris was second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding. In his senior year, he improved even further, leading the Big East in scoring.

NBA
The Portland Trail Blazers chose Demetris as the 53rd pick overall, in the second round, of the 2007 draft - then traded him to the New York Knicks for the Knicks' 2008 second round draft choice.

The Knicks released Demetris on October 25, 2007. On October 29, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He saw very little playing time, and on December 5, 2007 he was waived.

The Chicago Bulls claimed him off waivers and sent him to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League to get a bit of seasoning. .He played his first game for Bulls on January 23, 2008, and ended up appearing in 11 games for them that season.
