Shannon attended Michigan State University, and played basketball for the Spartans. As a junior, he was second-team All-Big Ten and an All-Big Ten Defensive selection.
NBA
Shannon declared for the draft after his junior year, and was taken in the first round of the 2006 Draft as the 25th overall pick, by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
2006-2007
Shannon played in only 23 games during his first season, starting in five of those games. However, a shin injury kept him out of action for a while.
2007-2008
Shannon played in only a few games for the Cavaliers during this season. After a brief stint with the Development League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, he returned to the Cavaliers, but was eventually traded to the Chicago Bulls, on February 21, 2008, where he appeared in only a handful of games. He became a free agent after the season.
2008-2009
On August 6, 2008, the Charlotte Bobcats signed Shannon to a one-year contract.
