Sami Tuomas Hyypia is a former Finnish international football player who currently features for the English Premier League giants Liverpool. He is a central defender and has won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup with the Reds.

Sami Hyypia commenced his professional career with MyPa in Finland in 1992 and three years later moved to Dutch side Willem II. He became one of the vital players for Willem and played for them for four seasons. He played an exact 100 league games.

In the summer of 1999 Hyypia was signed by his boyhood-loved club Liverpool for 2.6 million pounds and quickly settled into the Liverpool central defence. He won the UEFA Cup with the Reds in 2001 and was made the captain of the side in 2002. In 2002 however Steven Gerrard was made the skipper.

Hyypia won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 and signed a new deal in April 2008 that shall keep him at Anfield until the end of he 2008-2009 season although he is no more a guaranteed first teamer. So far he has played over 300 Premier League matches for Liverpool.

Sami Hyypia made his international debut for Finland in 1992 and retired in 2007. He made 90 appearances for his nation and scored 5 goals.
