However he didn’t last much long at the Amsterdam Arena and after scoring 3 goals in 30 league matches for Ajax was sent on loan to Spanish club Celta de Vigo. He played for them for two seasons between 2005 and 2007 but managed just 20 league matches for the Galician club, scoring one goal in the process.
Daniel de Ridder returned to Ajax at the end of the 2006-2007 season after Celta were relegated from the Spanish first season but he was never quite embraced at Ajax. They released him on a free transfer in the summer of 2007 and was signed by English club Birmingham City on a free transfer. But he never settled in at St. Andrew’s and could play only 10 Premier League matches in his one and only season for the Blues. His last match for Birmingham came in January 2008 in the FA Cup.
