David Ross fan club
David Wade Ross was born on March 19, 1977 in Bainbridge, Georgia. He is a backup catcher for the Boston Red Sox, called up during the roster expansion in September, 2008.
David is 6'-2" , weighs 225 pounds, and bats and throws right-handed.
College
The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted David in the 19th round of the 1995 amateur draft, but he did not sign and instead went to Auburn University.
He transferred to the University of Florida after the 1997 season.
Minor Leagues
In 1998, the Dodgers again selected Ross, and this time he signed.
Major Leagues
David made his Major League debut for the Dodgers on June 28, 2002, and was with the team until 2004.
Since that time he has played with a variety of teams, and used to be quite a favorite for his ability to hit long home runs. However, his batting numbers have declined since 2007, and he has been in a backup role ever since.
On August 10, 2008, the National League Cincinatti Reds designated him for assignment and he was released on August 18.
On August 22, 2008, he signed a minor-league contract with the Boston Red Sox, and was brought up to the major league club on August 29, in preparation for the Red Sox playoff run.
'Career Note
(College) By playing with both Auburn University and the University of Florida, he is one of only a handful of players to play in the College World Series with two different schools.
