Kirk James Hinrich is an American professional basketball player. He is a player of the USA national team as well as at present a point guard for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. He was born on January 2, 1981 in the city of Sioux, Lowa. Hinrich is also a member of the USA National Team. He is 197 lb (89 kg) in weight and 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) in height. He currently wears the number 12 jersey for the Chicago Bulls.
Hinrich completed his high school from the West High School in Sioux City. He was named the 1999 Mr. Basketball in Lowa. Hinrich completed his graduation from the University of Kansas. When Hinrich was a player of the Kansas team in college basketball, his team reached the Final Four in the 2002 NCAA basketball tournament. In college Hinrich had an average of 6.9 apg and was ranked 8th in the country. He was also a leader in steals and with a .505 three-point shooting mark created a school record. Hinrich played all four years at Kansas before being drafted to the NBA. Hinrich is often referred to as "Captain Kirk" because he has been voted a team captain for the Bulls for four consecutive years.
In the 2003 NBA draft the Chicago Bulls chose Hinrich with the seventh overall pick. Before he started his first season Hinrich was pestered by acute viral infection and needed some months to recover. However after recovering he played nicely due to which his position as a starting point guard of the Bulls was solidified and he was chosen in the 2004 All-Rookie first team of the NBA. In this season his shot precision inside the three-point line on field goals was 38.6 percent.
During the 2005-06 season the three-point shooting accuracy of Hinrich declined to 35% however his field-goal percentage rose to 41%. Amongst the Bulls he is one of the better free throw shooters as his career free throw shooting average is 80.5%. In this season he averaged 3.6 rpg, 6.4 apg and 15.9 ppg which are his career high statistics. He also attained other career high statistics like shooting 41.8% from the field and 81.5% from the free throw line. During this season he was the singular player from the Chicago Bulls who had an average of more than one steal per game.
In the 2006-07 season Hinrich achieved career highs in free throw shooting percentage, 3-point field goal and field goal as well as 16.6 ppg. In July 2006, Hinrich was officially named to the United States National Basketball team to compete for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
