Michael Matthew Bowden was born on September 9, 1986 in Winfield, Illinois. He is a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

Minor Leagues
Michael was selected by the Red Sox in the 1st round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.

2005 - GCL Red Sox in the Gulf Coast League
2006 - Greenville Drive in the South Atlantic League, then the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Carolina League
2007 - Lancaster JetHawks in the California League, then the Portland Sea Dogs in the Eastern League
2008 - Portland Sea Dogs, then the Pawtucket Red Sox in the International League.

Major Leagues
Although compiling 3 losses in his brief stint with Pawtucket, Michael's pitching impressed so much that on August 29, 2008, he was called up by the Red Sox, and won his Major League debut on August 30 against the Chicago White Sox, 8-2, pitching five effective innings.

On August 31, 2008, Michael was sent back to Pawtucket to get more experience in a relief role. He will be brought back up to the majors in some capacity during September as the Red Sox make their bid for a playoff berth.
