Brad Gregory Ziegler was born on October 10, 1979 in Pratt, Kansas. He is the current closer for the Oakland Athletics.

College
Brad was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round (938th overall) of the 2002 amateur entry draft but did not sign, continuing to attend Missouri State University for his senior year.

Minor Leagues
The Philadelphia Phillies drafted him in the 20th round (595th overall) of the 2003 amateur entry draft.

The Phillies released him and he was picked up by the Athletics organization, and went through their minor league system.

In the 2007 season, Brad converted to a sidearm/submarine style of pitching.

Oakland Athletics
Brad received his first call-up to the major leagues on May 30, 2008.

He earned his first Major League win on June 8 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

On July 22, 2008, Brad set an American League record for consecutive scoreless innings to start a major league career.
