Bubba Franks plays tight end for the NFL's New York Jets. Originally, he was drafted out of the University of Miami by the Green Bay Packers as the 14th overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. While playing college ball, The Sporting News selected him as a Freshman All-American in 1997. In 1998 and 1999, he was First-team All-Big East and in 1999 he was All-American.

Franks, who is 6-6 and 265 pounds, played for the Packers from 2000 to 2007. After an unspectacular rookie season, he started to find his stride and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Although a talented tight end with athleticism and soft hands, he has had durability issues. Over the past few years, his speed has declined and productivity has dropped. Although skilled, he seems to be short on effort and intensity. He runs well and understands where the openings are in coverage. He's not the best of blockers despite the fact that he's good-sized.

In six of his eight seasons, Franks played in all 16 regular season contests. With Green Bay, the tight end handled 256 receptions for 2,300 total yards and 32 touchdowns. He averaged 9.0 yards per catch.

On February 20, 2008, the Packers released Franks after an unhealthy and unproductive season in which he appeared in just eight games. He signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets on March 16, 2008.
