Cody Ransom

Bryan Cody Ransom was born on February 17, 1976 in Mesa, Arizona. He is a shortstop for the New York Yankees.

High School
Cody attended Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona.

College
Cody was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 43rd round (1202nd overall) in the 1995 Major League Baseball draft but elected to attend South Mountain Community College instead. After two years, he transferred to Mesa State, and then to Grand Canyon University for his final year.

Minor Leagues
Cody was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 9th round (278th overall).

He made his way through the Giant's farm system.

Major Leagues
Cody made his major league debut on September 5, 2001 for the Giants, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. From 2002 to 2004, he alternated time between the Giants and their AAA affiliate.

Chicago Cubs
After the 2004 season, he was granted free agency, and signed with the Chicago Cubs on January 20, 2005. On March 30, 2005, he was acquired by the Texas Rangers for cash considerations.

After a few games in the Rangers' minor league system, he was reaquired by the Cubs, but was eventually released.

Houston Astros
Cody signed with the Seattle Mariners on January 27, 2006, with an invite to Spring Training, but didn't make the team. He was sent to the Houston Astros for cash considerations on March 30, 2006.

He was called up to the Astros on September 4, 2007, as part of the September call-ups.

New York Yankees
Cody signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees during the 07-08 offseason, and was called up to the Yankees on August 15, 2008.

Personal
Cody was a survivor of a car crash, when his South Mountain Community College baseball team's van blew a tire on a team trip to Tucson. Four men in Cody's van died as the van rolled.
