Th Devil Rays released him after the 2004 season and in 2005 he signed on with the Texas Rangers and played in their AAA club.

He signed with the Yankees before the 2006 season. Although he made his major league debut in 2006, he spent most of his time with their AAA team.

Injured early in 2007, he recovered well and was a September call-up.

Jose didn't start the 2008 season on the major league roster, but was soon called up, and became the set-up man after Kyle Farnsworth was traded.

Personal
Jose and his wife Gissel have no children to date.
