Piyush Chawla is a Legbreak bowler and a Left handed batsman with the Indian cricket team. He has also played cricket for the Air India, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan Cricket Association President's XI, India Green, India Under-19s, and the Kings XI Punjab cricket teams.
Piyush Chawla started playing first class cricket in 2005. He made his debut in International cricket in a test match against England at Mohali in 2006. After bowling 9 overs and giving away 45 runs in the first innings, Chawla scored a run and was caught out by Collingwood off a ball by Hoggard. In the second innings, Chawla claimed the wicket of Andrew Flintoff and gave away 8 runs in the 5.1 overs that he bowled. Chawla was accompanied by Munaf Patel who was also debuting for the Indian team. India won the match by 9 wickets. The following year he played his first One day international match against Bangladesh at Dhaka. After being stumped by Mushfiqur Rahim and scoring just one run, Chawla claimed 3 wickets and gave away just 37 runs in the 10 overs that he bowled. India went on to win the match by 46 runs. In 2008, Chawla was signed by the Kings XI Punjab with the Indian Premier League.
In a total of 21 One day Internationals’, Chawla has scored 28 runs and claimed 28 wickets at an economy of 4.96 runs per over. His career best figures in ODI’s are 4 wickets for 23 runs. He also has a total of 3 wickets at an economy of 4.00 runs per over in the 2 test matches that he has played.
