Stephen Alan “Steve” Harper is an English football player who currently features for the English Premier League football club Newcastle United. He plays as a goalkeeper and has always played for the Magpies.
Steve Harper was signed by Newcastle United from Seaham Red Star(his youth club) in 1993 for a nominal fee and Harper has been at St. James’ Park ever since. He has always been used as a back-up and has never managed to play first team football on a regular basis.
So much so that Steve Harper has played ust over 70 matches in the English Premier League so far.
Harper though has played on loan for a number of clubs. He played for Bradford City in 1995, then for Gateshead, Stockport County, Hartlepool United and Huddlersfield Town.
Steve Harper is also a FA-approved referee, one of the few professional footballers to have earned their referee’s license.
