After playing his college ball for Monmouth, wide receiver Miles Austin was not chosen in the 2006 NFL Draft. That year, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys. He is a backup wide receiver and a special teams player.

While at Monmouth, Austin had 150 catches for 2,867 yards and 33 touchdowns. He holds the school records for total catches and yards. He also set the single-season school record for touchdown catches in 2003 with 12.

Austin has been a special teams player and wideout for the Cowboys. As a rookie, he ran back 29 kickoffs for 753 yards. He also had five tackles. That year in a playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Austin returned three kickoffs for 136 yards, including a 93-yard run back for a touchdown In two seasons, he's played in 25 games, returning 53 kickoffs for 1,365 yards and a 25.8 YPR average. In 2007, he had five receptions for 76 yards, averaging 15.2 YPC.

At six-foot-three and 215 pounds, Austin is sized nicely for NFL play. His speed is good. He shows fine ability to make cuts and offers better-than-average acceleration. As a receiver, he's developed his route running skills, but does not consistently use his body and balance to accelerate through coverage and gain separation. Austin is a hard worker who continues to improve. His versatility on special teams and developing skills as a receiver make him an asset.
