Sorana Cirstea
Miheala Sorana Cîrstea is a female Romanian professional tennis player. She was born on April 7, 1990 to father, Mihai, and mother, Liliana. She has a younger brother, Mihnea, who is five years her junior, and she is coached by Alina Tecsor. Cîrstea was introduced to tennis by her mother when she was just 4 years old.
Cîrstea turned pro in 2006, however, prior to turning pro, she already had participated in certain ITF Circuit events, and even won some titles to boot. In 2004, she played her first events and in turn won two doubles titles. By 2005, she continued to play on the ITF Circuit, managing to win one title in singles and two titles for doubles.
On her debut year, she made it to the Tour main draw at Stockholm, but she fell in 1r. However, in the ITF Circuit of that year, she won two titles for singles, and another two titles for doubles.
The year 2007 brought her close to a Top 100 finish. Highlighting that year, Cîrstea had breakthrough performances at Bali and Budapest. In the ITF Circuit, she won another singles title, and notched up two doubles titles. In September 17 of the said year, Cîrstea's rankings rose from No. 137 to No. 109, and then rose again to No. 106 in November 12 of the same year.
Throughout the course of her professional career, Cîrstea has a record of 125-52 in singles, while she has 61-27 in doubles. She has 4 ITF titles in singles, and 8 ITF titles in doubles. She has only 1 WTA record for doubles, and none in singles. Despite her record, she has still to win a Grand Slam title. As for her highest rank achieved, Cîrstea has reached No. 53 in singles (July 7, 2008), and No. 114 in doubles (June 9, 2008).
