Mushtaq Ahmed is a Right arm leg break bowler and a Right handed batsman with the Pakistan cricket team. He has also played for the Islamabad Cricket Association, Multan, Lahore, National Bank of Pakistan, Redco Pakistan Ltd, Peshawar Cricket Association, Rest of Punjab, Sussex, Somerset, Surrey, United Bank Limited and the Lahore Badshahs cricket teams.

Mushtaq Ahmed started playing first class cricket in 1986. He made his debut in International cricket in a One day International match against Sri Lanka at Sharjah in 1989. After being caught out for a duck, Ahmed claimed the wickets of Kuruppu and Aravinda de Silva and gave away 33 runs in the 9.3 overs that he bowled. Pakistan won the match by 30 runs. The following year Ahmed played his first test match in Adelaide against Australia. He was once again caught out for a duck in the first innings, however he claimed 4 wickets giving away just 69 runs in the 23 overs that he bowled. In the second innings, after scoring 4 runs, Ahmed claimed another wicket and gave away 72 runs in 25 overs which also included 5 maiden overs. The match resulted in a draw. Ahmed was a part of the 1992 Pakistan World Cup Champion team. He also played the 1996 and 1999 World Cups. Ahmed was appointed as the assistant coach of the team by the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2006. In 2007, he was signed by the Lahore Badshahs of the rebel Indian Cricket League.

In a total of 144 One day Internationals’, Ahmed has claimed 161 wickets at an economy of 4.26 with a career best of 5 wickets for 36 runs. He also has a total of 185 wickets at an economy of 2.92 runs per over in the 52 test that he has played where his career best is 10/106 in a test match.
