Mikael Samuelsson

Mikael Samuelsson is a Swedish center who currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings.

Samuelsson was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 1998, but continued to play in the Swedish Elitserien league, where he played for Sodertalje, V.Frolunda and finally Brynas before coming to the NHL in 2001. He played only 4 games with the Sharks and was traded to the New York Rangers before registering a single point. He spent two seasons in New York, before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins and then the Florida Panthers. During the lockout, he split time between Sodertalje and Geneve-Servette of the Swiss hockey league.

Upon returning to the NHL in 2005, he was signed by the Detroit Red Wings. Samuelsson finally seemed to have matured, and set career highs in nearly every statistical category, finishing the season with 45 points in 71 games. Despite being hampered by injuries in 2006-2007, Samuelsson still put up solid numbers. In 2007-2008, Samuelsson has continued to be consistent, putting up decent point totals, while maintaining a +21 rating.

Samuelsson won a gold medal with the Swedish Olympic team in 2006.
