Habibul Bashar is a Right handed batsman and a Right arm offbreak bowler with the Bangladesh cricket team. He has also played for the Khulna Division and the Biman Bangladesh cricket teams.

Habibul Bashar started playing first class cricket since 1997. He represented the under 19 Bangladesh team in the 1989 Asia Cup. He made his debut in International cricket in a One day International match against Sri Lanka at Sharjah in 1995. He scored 16 runs in 35 balls which also included 3 boundaries. Sri Lanka however won the match by 107 runs. In 2000, Bashar played his first test match against India at Dhaka. He scored a steady 71 runs in 112 balls knocking 10 boundaries. He also bowled 8 overs and gave away 39 runs however could not claim any wickets in the first innings. In the second innings, Bashar scored 30 runs in 63 balls including 4 boundaries and was the highest scorer in the Bangladesh side before they stumbled to a fierce Indian bowling attack. India won the match by 9 wickets. In 2004, Bashar was named as the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team. Though left out in the 1999 World Cup team, Bashar played the 2003 and the 2007 World Cups as the captain following which he stepped down from captaincy and handed over the responsibility to Mohammad Ashraful.

In a total of 50 test matches, Bashar has scored 3026 runs with a high score of 113 runs and a strike rate of 60.27. He also has 3 hundreds and 24 half centuries to his name in tests. In a total of 111 One day Internationals’, Bashar has 2168 runs with a strike rate of 60.45 which also includes 14 half centuries.
