Mike Green is a Canadian defenseman on the Washington Capitals.
Green was drafted by Washington in the first round of the 2004 NHL Draft. A highly regarded prospect, Green made a brief NHL debut in 2005-06, but did not have his breakout year until 2007-08. After new head coach Bruce Boudreau took over midway through the season, Green went on an offensive tear, finishing the season with 18 goals and 56 points to lead all NHL defenseman in goals. A fan favorite in Washington, Green was signed to a four year contract during the 2008 offseason.
Green played for Team Canada at the 2008 World Championships, where he won a silver medal.
