Tamarine Tanasugarn is a female Thai professional tennis player. She was born on May 24, 1977 in Los Angeles, California, United States. Currently, she resides in Bangkok, Thailand. She was born to parents, Virachi (father; a lawyer who also coaches Tanasugarn, and a former Olympic basketball player during 1960 and 1964) and Sunattra (mother; homemaker). She has one brother and two older sisters, and was given the honor of being Thailand’s flag bearer into the Olympic Stadium at the Olympic Games last 1996. She currently holds a dual citizenship in Thailand and the United States. When playing, she carries a lucky charm in the shape of a heart.

Tanasugarn turned pro in 1994; however, she first joined the ITF Circuit in 1990. She made her Tour debut at Pattaya City and won her first ITF Circuit singles in 1993. She first reached her first finals in the singles event at Pattaya City in 1996. However, she lost to Dragomir Ilie, who went on to take the win. During this year, she won three ITF Circuit titles in singles.

It was in 1997 where she had her first Top 50 finish. That year, she also made it to the semi-final round at Auckland, as well as made her debut in all four of the Majors. In 2003, Tanasugarn grabbed her first Tour singles titles in an event at Hyderabad. She also reached another semi-finals round at Pattaya City in the same year.

Over the course of her career, Tanasugarn has had a lot of wins and losses to her name. Overall, she has a 434-331 record in singles, and a 191-186 record in doubles. She has garnered 2 WTA titles as well as 11 ITF titles in singles. As for doubles, she has 5 WTA titles and 3 ITF titles to her name. However, she has yet to win a Grand Slam event.
