David Christopher DeJesus was born on December 20, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York. He plays center fielder for the Kansas City Royals.

High School
David grew up in Manalapan Township, New Jersey, and played high school baseball at Manalapan High School.

College
Although David was drafted out of high school by the New York Mets, he did not sign, but went to Rutgers University instead, for three years.

Minor Leagues
David was drafted in the fourth round of the 2000 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals. He did not play in 2001, however, as he had to recover from an elbow injury suffered at Rutgers.

Major Leagues
David made his Major League debut on September 2, 2003. He became a starter in 2004, after Carlos Beltrán was traded to the Houston Astros. He qualified as a rookie, and finished sixth in the 2004 Rookie of the Year voting.

On March 9, 2006, David signed a five-year, $13.8 million dollar contract extension with the Royals through 2010, with a club option for the 2011 season.
