Johnathan Richard Buck was born on July 7, 1980 in Kemmerer, Wyoming. He is one of two catchers for the Kansas City Royals.

John went to high school in Taylorsville, Utah.

Minor leagues
John was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 7th round of the 1998 Amateur Draft. He signed a minor league contract on June 11, 1998 but struggled on his journey through their farm system.

On June 24, 2004, the Astros traded him as part of a deal to acquire Carlos Beltran, sending Buck to Kansas City.

Major Leagues
The Royals immediately put John in their starting lineup, replacing injured veteran Benito Santiago.

Personal
John and his wife Brooke have twin boys: Cooper and Brody, born in May, 2008.

Buck is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His nickname is "The King of Scotland," given from his friend and former PawSox player Michael Buchanon. John once went 6/6 in a game and declared he was moving to Scotland.
