Julien Benneteau is a French professional tennis player. He was born on December 20, 1981 in Bourg en Bresse, France to parents Andre and Lawrence. He has one brother, Antoine, who had played in Futures events from 2004-2007, and two sisters, Dominique and Marie-Sophie. He started playing tennis at four years old, and is a member of “Team Lagardere”. Currently, he is coached by fellow countrymen, Olivier Soules and Olivier Malcor.

Benneteau went pro in 2000, and immediately compiled a 23-20 record in Futures events, reaching semi-finals twice in French Futures. He also won a Challenger and Futures titles in doubles with his partner, Mahut. By 2001, he made his ATP debut and went on a 16-13 record in Futures as well as 3-2 record in Challengers. That year, he also managed to land two Futures finals – but he did not win.

Fast forward to 2206, Benneteau compiled his best season to date with his first Top 50 finish as well as reaching his first personal high with 24 wins. He qualified four times during the course of the year, including three of the first four tournaments he played in the year. It was in that year that he earned his personal-best at $523,735 and passed the $1 million in his career.

Over the course of his career, Benneteau has a record of 82-102 in singles, and 79-72 for doubles. He has no ATP titles or Grand Slam titles yet. However, his performances in the Grand Slam events are considered great. His highest ranking attained is at No. 35 (achieved in May 21, 2007) for singles, and in doubles, he has reached No. 22 (achieved in September 10, 2007).
