Kwame Brown completed his high school from Glynn Academy High School. While he was in class he was consistently acknowledged as the “best high school player.” In Georgia when he was the senior he was the high school player of the year as well as the leading shot-blocker (605) and leading rebounder (1235). He was one of the five high school seniors named at the First-Team All-American by The Sporting News.
Kwame was the 1st overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards, and was the first number one draft pick to be selected straight out of high school. The Wizards was his first team that Kwame played professionally for.
In the 2001-02 season Kwame averaged 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 points per game. He scored a career high of 14 points vs. L.A. Lakers, posted his first career double with 10 points and career high of 12 rebounds with the San Antonio Spurs. At the end of the season Kwame scored in double figures in eight games and Led the team in rebounding four times.
In 2003-04 Kwame led the Wizards in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and set new career-highs with 30 points and 19 rebounds against Sacramento. He also achieved his 18th double-double of the season and grabbed 15 rebounds vs. Orlando. Kwame also tied a career-high by dishing five assists versus Portland. Scored 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds versus Indiana. Hit his first career three-pointer with 0.4 second left in the first half against the Dallas Mavericks.
At the start of the 2007-08 season Brown was injured and was almost out for most of the matches. On February 1, 2008 he was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Memphis Grizzlies.
