Kamran Akmal

Kamran Akmal is a Right Handed batsman and a wicket keeper with the Pakistan Cricket team. He has also played with the National Bank of Pakistan and the Lahore cricket clubs and is playing with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Akmal made his first class debut in 1997. After playing first class cricket and showcasing good performance in the Pakistan- A team he made his test debut in 2002 against Zimbabwe in Harare. After being dismissed for a duck by Price in the first innings Akmal chipped in 38 runs in the second innings before being bowled by Price again. Akmal debuted in his first One Day International the same year against Zimbabwe. Though he did not come to bat in the match he caught Zimbabwe opener S Matsikenyeri behind the wicket off a ball by Wasim Akram to help Pakistan win the match. He did not get many opportunities in the Pakistan side as he was a replacement only when Moin Khan or Latif was not available. However in 2004, he started playing as a full time wicketkeeper to Pakistan. In 2005, Akmal scored five international 100’s while keeping the stumps at the same time. In 2006, Akmal scored the fastest hundred by a wicketkeeper against India in a test in Lahore. He also scored another hundred an occasion to save Pakistan from a 39 for 6 doom and helped the victory against the Indians. In 2006, Akmal’s performance suffered as he stumbled behind the wickets. He however earned a place in the 2007 World Cup Pakistan team. In 2008, Akmal was signed in the Indian Premier League by the Rajasthan Royals, who went on to win the first IPL Championships defeating the Chennai Super Kings.

In a total of 88 One Day International matches, Akmal has scored 1621 runs with a high score of 124. In the Twenty20 format he has played 31 matches till date and scored 463 runs with a strike rate of 113.81. He also has 86 catches and 14 stumpings to his name in One Days’ and 15 catches and 17 stumpings in 20Twenties.
